Commission / Auction rates:
Fees are taken on a per-auction or per Special Order basis.

  1. Base fee of $5.00 for auctions up to ¥2,000.
  2. Base fee of $8.00 for auctions ¥2,001 up to ¥4,000.
  3. Base fee of $12.00 for auctions ¥4,001 up to ¥10,000.
  4. $1.00 fee for every ¥1,000 over ¥10,000. (rounded up to nearest 1k)
  5. $0.50 fee for every ¥1,000 over ¥30,000. (rounded up to nearest 1k)

Special Order Fees (non-auction):

  1. $5.00 fee is charge to place the order itself, wether accepted or not.
  2. $5.00 flat fee for the first item, $2.00 for each additional item
  3. + normal commission rates as listed above based off the total price of the special order.

Yen Rate:
The conversion rate is constantly changing. You can visit www.xe.com to find current exchange rates. We typically use the current rate ~ -4. So if the current rate is ~120, we'll use a rate of ~116 to protect us from market flux. Keep in mind that the rate can change very rapidly and these numbers are only to be used as a reference, not an actual price!

Examples using a $1.00 USD = 120 yen rate:
ex1. Auction price: ¥10,000 = $83.34 (10,000 / 120)
ex2. Auction price: ¥22,569 = $188.08 (22,569 / 120)

Wire Fee (Processing Fee):
We charge a flat $2.50 wire fee per auction. Fees can be combined with multiple auctions from the same seller if we are able! So you could buy 10 items from the same seller and pay as little as $2.50 in total wire fees! A wire fee is our cost to send money to the seller in payment of the auction. (mostly done with a wire)

The wire fee also applies for special orders. However, we also roll the special order fees into this total. So for special orders the typical "Processing Fee" is $12.50.

Internal Shipping :

Be sure to read up on "How we Ship" and "Storage" so you fully understand how and where your winnings will handled and shipped. We use a very unique and efficent means to get the items to you quick and cost effective.

Bid Wars:
It is rare, but on occasion, multiple users will bid on the same auction. This situation is pretty uncommon and although this does not increase the cost of the auction (because it uses our same YHJ ID), it sill raises the maximum bid. Under normal circumstances the cost of the auction would go up and up and up because of the bidding war. However, we found a way to save you some money!

Our example auction is currently at 8,000 yen and user #1 is currently the high bidder with a max of 10,000 yen. User number #2 decided's they want to try for the item, and bids 15,000 yen. The auction ends, and user #2 wins, however; the auction amount is still at 8,000 yen! Why? Because using our same account we simply raised the maximum bid instead of bidding with another account......thus saving you money and keeping the ending price lower!

However, for this service we charge $2.00 per ¥1,000 (rounded up) on the difference between the actual cost and the last high bid you defeated to win the auction. So user #2 would pay an additional $4.00 in commission. (¥10,000- ¥8,000 = ¥2,000) Confusing? Well, check out these examples:

-example #1:
Won auction amount ¥12,500
User #1's bid = ¥16,000
User #2's bid = ¥24,000
Bidding War difference = ¥3,500 (High bid defeated - Won auction) or ( ¥16,000 - ¥12,500)
Bid War commission = $8.00

Instead of paying the difference of ¥3,500 (apx $30.00) as normal, you only pay $8.00!

-example #2
Won auction amount ¥43,000
User #1's bid = ¥46,000
User #2's bid = ¥58,000
User #3's bid = ¥64,000
User #4's bid = ¥80,000
Bid War difference = ¥21,000 (High bid defeated - Won amount) or ( ¥64,000 - ¥43,000)
Bid War commission = $42.00

Instead of paying the difference of ¥21,000 (apx $178.00) as normal, you only pay $42.00!

We know this can be a little confusing, so if you have questions feel free to post on our forums or contact us.

Other Fees (not charged by SMJ):
In some cases auctioneers will charge a 3% "seller commission" fee because YHJ charges them the same amount. Its uncommon, but if your a regular customer you will encounter it. There are other hidden charges that some auctioneers put in with their items; the best thing to do is use the translators on our help pages and read them best you can. Few sellers tag on extra fees, but it can and will happen...so please be aware of it.

Late Fees
After you receive an invoice you will have 14 days to pay for those items.
Detailed payment instructions will accompany every email invoice. A $10.00 fee will be charged on each auction if it is not paid for on time, and another $10.00 every 14 days. If the item is still not paid after 3 late fees per auction have accumulated, your credit card will be billed for the full amount, or your deposit depleted to pay it off. Additionally, these items, whether paid for, partially paid for, on not paid at all, will become the property of Anime Chaos / SMJ and resold to make up for lost time and money.

Foreign Sellers (outside of Japan)
Sellers from places such as China, Korea, and many other non-Japanese sellers are often more difficult to conduct business with on average. While most all transactions are paid for and received smoothly, it is near impossible to exchange or return items purchased from these sellers. So please keep in mind when bidding on an auction where the seller is from outside Japan, that these items cannot be returned or exchanged, even if the wrong item is sent or even broken. The customer will assume all risk.

How do you know if its a non-Japanese seller or not? Its usually pretty obvious from the item description or even the item itself. However; whether or not the seller is known to be from outside Japan or not, the above rules apply.

Fragile & Difficult items (ship-at-your-own-risk)

Due to the nature of some items they are more easily subject to damage in shipping, at no fault of SMJ or the postal service. They are simply fragile, or very difficult to ship securely. Typically this is limited to a very few number of items such as large instruments like guitars, glass frames, ceramics, or very delicate electronics.

Because of this the post office rarely accepts insurance claims on these items as most of the time there is no visible damage to the container. Although SMJ packages every customers items with care and the upmost security in mind, unfortunetly, we are unable to eat the cost of such goods in the event the post office denies our insurance claim.

These such items are "Ship-at-your-own-risk." Meaning we will package them the best we can, but in the unfortunete occurance damage is done to the item, you will not be reimbursed for the damaged goods.

If you suspect your items may fall in this catagory please feel free to email us and ask.

Customer responsibility
Shopping Mall Japan is a deputy service, or middle-man, to help you obtain goods from Japan. Or responsibility is to pay for, obtain, and deliver to you the item(s) in the same condition that we received them from the sellers in Japan. Most of what can be found on YHJ are used items very similar to the type of items found on Ebay.

We do our best to deliver the product to you in the same condition we received it, and as quickly / efficiently as possible. However; we are not responsible for any misrepresentation, damage, authenticity, functionality, or overall quality of the item as represented by the thousands and thousands of sellers on YHJ. Even in the unfortunate occurrence that an auction should prove to be a scam, the customer is still responsible for the payment of all invoices.

Do your best to research items, and always....ALWAYS check a sellers feedback rating. If they have very little or no feedback at all, its usually best to avoid the auction completely. Just as there are some scum bags on Ebay, there are a few on YHJ. So if its too good to be true, or you have any suspicions, just use your common sense and avoid those kind of auctions.
